• Zoom - The zoom specification is a very practical deciding factor while making a camcorders price comparison. Optical zoom ranges typically ranging between 10 x and 20 x are currently very popular while digital zoom specifications, can reach an amazing 800x.

High Definition Camcorders on the Rise

The best part about a high definition camcorder is it’s ability to record in high definition. It’s as simple as that. HD camcorders can record at almost twice the standard resolution of your typical digital cameras. This makes the image and video feed crisper, cleaner, and clearer than any other type of recorder frame. This gives users the benefits of a cleaner, easier to use (and look at) video stream. Competition drives electronics. That is certainly true with the camera world.

Technology is always getting better and better which is good because it drives prices down on certain electronics and makes them affordable to consumers. The other good thing is that this competition allows manufacturers to make many different models of cameras to suit your needs and wants. They range anywhere from high end professional cameras to low end cameras that do just enough to get the job done. Most of the high definition camcorders are moving to flash memory which is great because it offers a variety of benefits that previously were not given to consumers. Also the ability to use a memory card also adds increased flexibility and recording time to help complete any project.

Most cameras have complex lenses with many different features. All of them obviously have zoom features which allows you to close in on just the shot that you want. There are other features such as night vision, pastel, movie mode, and more.

When looking for the right camera keep in mind prices, projects, and past purchases. All these will help you make a more educated and better decision.

A New Breed of Camcorders Hits the Market

Cameras that can record have been around for awhile. They started as Super-8 camera that you could create grainy, jerky, silent films. This progressed in the 80s with the creation of VHS and 8mm video cameras. While these types of cameras were the cutting edge in the 80’s they are now relics of an old age. The new age of camcorders is dominated by digital camcorders. These newer breed of cameras now record clear sharp digital pictures and the picture is even better in high definition models. These digital camcorders range in price from about $700 to $1500.

They take video images much the same way, except that they are recorded in a digital format rather than recording on VHS or BETA tapes. The ease of editing these videos is amazing since they can be downloaded to a personal computer. You can now add titles, transitions, and soundtracks. These can then be sent through the internet, saved on a hard drive or burned onto a DVD. The results are much more enjoyable to watch.

There are many options of digital camcorder formats: DV (digital video), Digital8, and DVD. The DV camcorders use Mini-DV type of media to record on. This is essentially DVD-quality video (720-by-480-pixel resolution). The DV type camcorders are the most common type of digital camcorder. The only problem is that each tape can only handle about one hour of video.

The Digital8 are a throwback to the Hi8 camcorders. These types of recorders can read older 8mm and Hi8 tapes and the newer Digital8 tapes. These are harder to come by but are able to record longer videos. The newer DVD camcorders allow you to edit on the machine rather than have to download the material to a PC. The video quality is not as good as DV or Digital8.

The DV and Digital8 recorders use FireWire or IEEE-1394 to link to a PC for download. You can download video directly from the machine onto your PC. Once there you can do all the editing you like, but be warned videos take a lot of memory to store. Editing the material is simple. If know how to cut and paste in a word processor, you can edit video on a computer. When you are finished editing your material you can send it back to recorder or you can copy it to a DVD. Make sure that your drive has DVD record ability functions.

Cheap DVD Camcorders to Stretch Your Dollar

There are so many DVD camcorders on the market right now and many of them are at really high prices. Seriously, you don’t have to spend that much on one, especially when there are cheap ones which do the job just as well!

So I must give a thumbs up to Canon for a providing such a quality product. You can’t get any better when you get the thumbs up from your fellow customers and its a best seller on Amazon too. This really is a true value for your money proposition.

I believe the Canon DC310 DVD Camcorder fits the bill! The product description sure is long and makes it sound like you have a godsend.

Since you obviously can’t trust the manufacturer, that’s where the customer reviews come in, to give you that all important unbiased assessment.

These are some features here:

1. SDHC Memory Card Slot, suitable for SD cards of 2GB capacity and above

2. Built in lens cover, so there isn’t anymore dangling lens cover that gets in your way

3. Genuine Canon Advanced Zoom, their proprietary technology for zooming

4. LCD Video light, for low light conditions, always good

5. Image stabilizer for professional looking, rock steady video, especially important for shooting the highly mobile events like your kid’s birthday party

6. 1 year limited warranty

7. 9 point AiAF - Gives you a lot of flexibility with your shots by bringing your off center subjects into sharp focus.

How about the 20 customer reviews giving it an average of 4/5 stars:

We are very pleased with our new Canon DC310 DVD camcorder. We have been using it for over 2 weeks, we took pictures of our granddaughter’s ballet recital in a dark auditorium and we were 9 rows back and the picture was as bright as day and the sound was very good. We took the camcorder on vacation and took several short moving of family and friends. It has performed great in all types of lighting and circumstances.

I can’t possible be objective if I didn’t include some of the brickbats.

But after spending a good amount of time poring through the customer reviews, the negative comments weren’t that many, and seemed to be griping about the small details. Nevertheless, I’ll just give it a quick run through.

1) USB port - Stated in the overview but seems there isn’t any Confusing menu? That wasn’t elaborated

2) You cannot finalize unless you connect the camera to the video adapter - Seems there is some issue about finalizing the DVD although this comment was the only one

All in all, I still believe it’s a good buy and for the relatively low price, it’s a good steal.
